Evolution Gaming Lounge: Futuristic RGBW Lighting Design for an Esports Venue

Evolution gaming lounge entrance corridor with RGBW linear lighting by Luminaria Lighting

Evolution is an e-sports gaming lounge built around a futuristic, tech-forward identity, and lighting was central to making that identity physical. Luminaria Lighting designed and installed the full RGBW lighting system for the venue, from the sculpted entrance corridor to the individual gaming pods.

Overview

The brief called for a lighting design that felt cinematic and futuristic throughout, reinforcing Evolution's identity as a competitive gaming venue rather than a standard internet café. Lighting was built into the architecture itself rather than added as an afterthought: recessed linear channels trace the ceiling and walls, a geometric light sculpture forms a feature wall, and individual gaming pods are lit as their own contained environments.

Project Requirements

  • Create a distinctive, futuristic visual identity throughout the venue using light as an architectural material
  • Support multiple zones — entrance corridor, main gaming floor, feature wall, and private gaming pods — each with its own color mood
  • Allow full color control and scene-changing across a large number of independent lighting circuits
  • Integrate lighting cleanly into ceiling coves, wall panels, desk edges, and a sculptural feature wall
  • Keep the system reliable for the long daily operating hours typical of a gaming lounge

Lighting Concept & Design

The design uses continuous lines of light rather than point fixtures, tracing the architecture the way circuitry traces a board. In the entrance corridor, RGBW linear channels run along the ceiling and down sculpted wall columns, converging on a backlit brand logo. A faceted feature wall carries crossing diagonal lines of light in a web-like pattern for a bold graphic moment as players move through the space.

Inside the private gaming pods, a circular LED ring fixture above the desk and RGBW strip along the desk edges create a contained, moody glow suited to long gaming or streaming sessions.

Every zone runs on its own controllable circuits, so the entrance, main floor, feature wall, and each pod can be set to complementary colors individually or shifted together for events and tournaments.

Materials & Products Used

  • D4-P DMX controllers for zone-based scene and color control
  • EV4-X power repeaters to maintain signal and power integrity across the long linear runs
  • RGBW 5050 LED strip for the main linear ceiling and wall channels
  • RGBW COB LED strip for the feature wall's fine, high-density light lines
  • 192-channel DMX mixer/controller to run the entire venue's lighting as one synchronized system
  • LED power supplies sized to each circuit's load
  • Aluminum profiles in multiple sizes to house and diffuse the strip runs across ceilings, columns, walls, and desks

Installation Details

The ceiling and wall channels were built using recessed and surface aluminum profiles sized to each application, keeping the LED strip protected and evenly diffused along every run. RGBW 5050 strip was used for the main architectural lines across the ceiling and gaming floor, while COB strip, with its smoother and denser light output, was reserved for the feature wall's tighter geometric pattern. All circuits were wired through EV4-X power repeaters back to the D4-P DMX controllers, with the full system unified under a 192-channel mixer so lighting scenes across the corridor, gaming floor, feature wall, and pods can be triggered together or run independently.

Final Result

The completed lighting system gives Evolution a cohesive, high-energy identity from the moment a visitor enters the corridor through to each individual gaming station. The DMX-based control setup means the venue isn't locked into one static look: colors and scenes can be adjusted for everyday play, streaming, or tournament events.

This project reflects Luminaria Lighting's work designing and installing DMX-controlled RGBW lighting systems for entertainment and commercial venues.
